Description
AirGuard is an innovative, student-designed portable air-quality monitoring and alert device created to address the growing challenge of rising air pollution, especially in urban environments. Every day, millions of students, children, and commuters unknowingly breathe polluted air, which can lead to serious health issues such as headaches, breathing difficulties, fatigue, reduced concentration, and long-term respiratory diseases. Despite the severity of this issue, people lack a simple and accessible way to understand the air quality around them in real time. AirGuard provides a practical and user-friendly solution through its compact, wearable design that can easily be clipped onto a school bag, shirt, or carried by hand. The device uses advanced sensors to continuously measure harmful particles like PM2.5 and PM10, and instantly alerts the user through coloured LED indicators: green for safe, yellow for moderate, and red for unsafe air conditions. When the pollution level rises suddenly, AirGuard can also vibrate or send a notification to the connected mobile app. The AirGuard app displays real-time air-quality readings, suggests whether it is safe to be outdoors, and even provides an interactive eco-score that encourages users to make healthier and more environmentally conscious choices. The device is designed to be durable, affordable, and suitable for everyday use, making it ideal for students, school campuses, families, runners, cyclists, and anyone exposed to pollution on a regular basis. In the future, AirGuard aims to become even smaller and more accurate, with improved sensors and a stronger app ecosystem. Plans include a school-wide network of AirGuard devices, pollution heatmaps, and personalized alerts based on sensitive groups. With potential partnerships across schools, communities, and health organizations, AirGuard has the vision to grow from a simple prototype into a widely used safety tool across India, helping people breathe safer and live healthier lives.
