Our prototype, Paws & Plates is a smart stray dog feeder. When the dog will lick the raindrop sensor it will send signals to the microprocessor through the breadboard. The microprocessor commands the servo motor to open it’s flap, allowing a small amount of food to slide down into the feed bowl thus satisfying the dog’s hunger. It helps stray dogs along with the entire society. It allows residents and animal lovers to put food in it easily and hygienically. Then, the feeder will dispense the food in a uniform and controlled manner. Now, the food will not be left on roads and sidewalks any more which posed a hygiene problem attracting insects and pets.
Description
Recently in India , there arose a burning issue of stray dogs, and a Supreme Court ruling in August 2025 banned public feeding and mandated designated feeding spots. This decision aimed to balance public safety with animal welfare, addressing ongoing conflicts and safety concerns. Municipal authorities across the country are now required to establish dedicated feeding spaces in every municipal ward. These areas should be chosen based on the local stray dog population. Yet, the core issue remains unresolved: stray dogs across cities continue to suffer from erratic feeding, malnutrition, and social exclusion. Every day, many of them wander the streets hungry, reliant solely on occasional human feeding. When food is offered openly, it is often scattered on roadsides, attracting pests, foul odour, spread of disease and unhygienic conditions. That’s why we present Paws & Plates!
