Automatic Traffic Signal Controller:

Traffic jams happen mainly because all signals run on fixed time cycles, even when one lane has almost no vehicles and the other lane is overloaded. To solve this real-life problem, our team created a Smart Traffic Signal Model that works based on traffic density.

Our model uses sensors to detect how many vehicles are present in each lane. Based on this density, the signal automatically adjusts the green-light duration. Lanes with more vehicles get more time, and lanes with fewer vehicles get shorter cycles. This makes the entire junction work faster, smoother, and much more intelligently than normal fixed-time signals.

How Our Model Works:

  • Each lane sends data about the number of vehicles (density).
  • The system compares the densities of all lanes.
  • The lane with the highest traffic gets priority and a longer green signal.
  • Other lanes get proportionate timing based on their vehicle density.
  • The cycle keeps repeating so traffic never gets stuck unnecessarily.
