CardiacTherm is an advanced Wearable Medical Device designed for immediate intervention during the critical early time of Heart Attacks called as Myocardial Infarctions(MI). The device is a Chest Pad that is worn on the Heart region called as the Mediastinum and delivers targeted precordial Hypothermia (11–18°C) to slow the death of Heart Cells and lower the demand of oxygenated blood by heart. After 20 mins of this Hypothermia, and therapy starts called as Hyperthermia (40–42°C) that is a heating therapy over the mediastinum by the chest pad to increase the blood circulation by Reducing the Infarct or Blood Clot Size in the arteries. Integrated TENS System that is Electrical Nerve Stimulation system using Electrodes enhances coronary perfusion, reduces ischemia, and pain. A neoprene chest pad with silicone-tube cooling mesh connects to an intelligent external unit featuring ECG, heart-rate and SpO₂ monitoring, dual Peltier regulation, and a fluid-cooling system. Description
CardiacTherm addresses the critical problem of Myocardial Infarctions (MI), where coronary artery blockage rapidly deprives cardiac tissue of oxygen, causing irreversible myocardial cell death within minutes. Over 85% of cardiac fatalities occur before reaching a hospital, and current emergency interventions like CPR or defibrillation do not protect the myocardium at the onset of ischemia.
The device consists of a neoprene-based chest wearable containing a conductive copper layer and a silicone-tubing mesh for thermal regulation. This pad connects to an external unit housing dual Peltier modules for controlled hypothermia and hyperthermia, a water-circulating pump, a TENS module, ECG and heart-rate monitoring, a microcontroller, and a user-friendly interface.
CardiacTherm operates by rapidly applying precordial hypothermia (11–18°C) to reduce myocardial metabolic demand, delay cell death, limit calcium overload, and suppress inflammatory cytokines. It also delivers targeted hyperthermia (40–42°C) to induce heat-shock proteins, enhance microcirculation, and reduce infarct size. The integrated TENS system improves coronary perfusion, mimics ischemic preconditioning, modulates autonomic tone, and relieves chest pain.
