DecibelSentinel is a device that uses a traffic light model and a buzzer to guide classroom volume. The green light is for low noise, yellow is for moderate noise and red is for high noise. If the light is red for more than 3 seconds, then the device gives out a gentle alert to notify students, promoting self-awareness. However, if the loud noise persists for more than 30 seconds, the device gives out a loud alert and notifies the central office.

Description
DecibelSentinel uses a traffic-light model that everyone instantly understands. Green means the class is focused. Yellow means noise is building. Red means the volume has crossed the limit. But here’s where my idea becomes truly smart: if the red light stays on for more than three seconds, the system gives a gentle alert to the class to settle down. It’s a simple nudge that helps students correct themselves before a teacher has to step in.
And if the loud noise continues, DecibelSentinel notifies the central office. This is not for punishment — it’s for pattern analysis. Schools can understand which classrooms struggle with noise, which times are the loudest, and what kind of support is needed. It turns a small device into a powerful tool for improving learning environments.
The biggest advantage is that the classroom becomes more self-managed. Students become aware of their own behaviour, teachers don’t have to pause their teaching again and again, and the atmosphere stays calm and focused. It feels like having a quiet, invisible helper whose only job is to protect learning.
My design is simple, affordable, and can be scaled from one classroom to an entire school network. My vision is a future where learning stays louder than noise, where focus is protected, and where classrooms can regulate themselves with the help of smart technology. That future begins with DecibelSentinel — because focus deserves a defender.
