Our project focuses on generating clean and renewable energy using speed breakers. When vehicles pass over the speed breaker, two mechanisms—piezoelectric discs and a rack-and-pinion connected dynamo—convert the mechanical pressure and motion into electrical energy. This harvested energy can be stored in batteries or used to power streetlights, sensors, and traffic systems, reducing electricity costs and promoting sustainable infrastructure. The model is compact, low-cost, and demonstrates how everyday vehicle movement can be transformed into useful power.

Our project presents an innovative solution for sustainable energy generation by harnessing the mechanical energy wasted on roads through vehicle movement. We designed an intelligent speed breaker system in which two mechanisms—piezoelectric discs and a rack-and-pinion powered dynamo—work together to convert pressure and motion into electrical energy. When vehicles pass over the speed breaker, the piezo discs experience compressive force and instantly produce electrical charge, while the vertical displacement of the breaker activates the rack-and-pinion mechanism, rotating a mini-dynamo to generate additional power. This dual-energy harvesting model effectively captures both vertical pressure and mechanical motion, increasing overall output. The generated electricity can be stored in rechargeable batteries and used for essential public applications such as street lighting, CCTV cameras, pedestrian signals, traffic indicators, and smart city sensors. Built using affordable materials, shock pads, and protective housings, the system ensures durability even under heavy vehicles and varying weather conditions. This project demonstrates how a simple, commonly ignored road structure like a speed breaker can be transformed into a productive, eco-friendly energy source, reducing dependency on conventional electricity and contributing to a greener, self-sustaining smart city ecosystem.
