SWARH(Savonius Windmill And Rainwater Harvester)

Today, India faces significant challenges in managing water and energy resources. Annually, millions of gallons of rainwater are wasted due to inadequate rainwater harvesting systems. At the same time, many isolated areas lack reliable electricity because of insufficient infrastructure. Along with this, Rapid population growth amplifies space limitations, complicating the installation of these systems. Moreover, wind turbines depend on consistent wind conditions, which are not available everywhere. All this makes renewable energy in India cumbersome. So, windmill owners who don’t have any other source of electricity are affected by this.
This is the reason we have made SWARH, which stands for Savonius WindMill and Rainwater Harvester. It produces 3 times more electricity than a normal windmill through its solar panels, which are strategically placed to face the sun at all times in a day. It harvests energy from wind through its unique turbine which uses the Savonius rotor design which is capable of spinning with a low wind speed and withstanding heavy downpour. WARH(Savonius Windmill And Rainwater Harvester) also harvests rainwater through its funnel design and purifies it through its inbuilt purifier so that it can be used as tap water. Our project is unique because a single SWARH unit can produce electricity 24/7 irrespective of the weather and climatic conditions and can also harvest rain water and solar energy in the limited area and can increase the production by 3 times without increasing the fixed capital or working capital. SWARH mini is a small scale prototype for this which is fully functional in all aspects and can be used as fun educational toy or a showcase.
