This smart system uses two IR sensors and a microcontroller to detect when people enter or leave a room. It automatically turns lights ON when someone is inside and OFF when the room becomes empty. This saves electricity, reduces bills, and promotes eco-friendly living.
Description
The Power-Saving System is a simple, smart, and eco-friendly solution designed to reduce electricity wastage in homes, schools, and offices. The main problem it solves is that people often forget to switch off lights when they leave a room, which leads to unnecessary energy loss and higher electricity bills. To fix this, the system uses two IR sensors placed at the entrance of a room. These sensors detect the direction of movement — one for entry and one for exit.
A microcontroller, such as an Arduino, keeps count of how many people are inside the room. When at least one person is present, the lights turn ON automatically. When the count goes back to zero, meaning the room is empty, the lights switch OFF without needing manual action. This automatic control ensures lights are only used when required.
The system is low-cost, reliable, and easy to install in classrooms, corridors, libraries, and even washrooms. It promotes energy conservation by removing human error from the process.
In the future, the system can be upgraded with Bluetooth or Wi-Fi for mobile control, advanced sensors for higher accuracy, and energy monitoring to show real-time electricity savings.
