Our project, The Greenplast Revolution, was shortlisted among the top 750 ideas out of 1,50,000 entries in the School Youth Ideathon competition, announced in the first slot of the top 750 ideas before the next 1,250 ideas were revealed, marking a significant recognition of our concept’s impact and potential. This innovation uses Nannochloropsis algae as a dual-purpose solution for creating sustainable bioplastics and purifying industrial pollution. The algae grow rapidly using sunlight and CO₂, require no farmland or freshwater, and are used to produce biodegradable, durable bioplastics reinforced with rice husk and upcycled ghost nets. At the same time, advanced algae reactors treat industrial wastewater by absorbing dyes, chemicals, and heavy metals, while vertical algae columns capture PM0.5–PM10 and remove SO₂, CO₂, and NOₓ from polluted air. With technologies like microbubble aeration, membrane filtration, and automated harvesting, the system remains efficient, scalable, and waste-free—providing cleaner water, cleaner air, eco-friendly materials, and a carbon-neutral pathway to reduce plastic waste and industrial emissions.
