In many narrow roads or U-turn zones, vehicles coming from opposite directions may collide, especially if visibility is poor or drivers cannot see an oncoming vehicle. There is a need for a low-cost alert/indicator system that can warn drivers about the presence (or absence) of vehicles in the opposite direction, helping prevent accidents. The project “U-Turn Safety System” is devised to address this problem by detecting oncoming vehicles and providing a visual indication (via LED light) to signal safety or danger.
Description
The U-Turn Safety System uses ultrasonic sensors installed on both sides of the U-turn to continuously scan the road for approaching vehicles. When a vehicle comes within a pre-defined danger distance, the sensor detects it and sends the information to a microcontroller (Arduino/NodeMCU).
The controller immediately turns GREEN light ON to indicate DANGER – Do NOT take U-turn.
If no vehicle is detected within the danger range, the system keeps the BLUE light ON, indicating SAFE to turn.
By continuously monitoring distance in real time and switching lights accordingly, the system prevents collisions and guides drivers to make safer U-turn decisions.
